SUP 101: Intro to Paddleboarding

This class focuses on helping new paddlers gain the basic knowledge and skills to safely paddle a standup paddleboard in flatwater environments where winds don’t exceed 10 knots or waves 1 ft.

None

Skills taught in this class:

  • Prepping your board for the water: fin, leash; transport

  • Launching and landing a SUP from a beach and from a dock

  • Stances: neutral; staggered; surf

  • Posture and use of core for efficient forward and reverse paddling

  • Forward and reverse sweep strokes for directional control and turning

  • Pivot turns

  • Draw strokes for sideways maneuvering

  • Safely falling from and remounting your board
